If there is something in this world you should all pay attention to, it is your name(s). What do you answer to?
Even the bible says "A good name is better than riches" (pun intended) Y'all know I like to make you laugh :)
Seriously tho, when you have kids, spend time to choose their names well, it does matter.
Erm that being said, I cannot marry a man that is bearing any funny name. Keep your name, thanks!
No offence, but seriously some names are not supposed to be borne by normal people. For example if your name directly translates to failure, why on earth are you still bearing it?
Or maybe someday, after giving birth to one lovely damsel like that {Oh yelz it has to be :)} the father will now decide to give her one funny name because he's the father? Sorry, it just cannot happen
Not my baby :)
I used to thank God for my parents, our names are great.
I think it is because they understand that good names are good because they have good ones themselves.
My father's name is Bernard which means brave
My mother's name is Gloria, same thing as Glory
My first name Jane means gracious gift of God. According to my parents, when they realized I'd be born on the 1st of January, they couldn't think of any other perfect name.
However years after I realized I didn't have any native name, I pressured my mum to give me one and she called me 'Idara' which means Joy. Nobody calls me this anyway, sometimes I even forget that it is supposed to be my name. I virtually used to beg even my mum to remember to call me that LOL
Anyway, I gave up on that a long time ago
My father calls me Queen
All of them, amazing names, as in God bless them for always thinking of a good name to give me :)
My sister's name is Blessing and boy, that girl is nothing but a blessing. My father calls her gold.
My brother's name is Akan which means Victor.
And my father calls him 'fine boy', even when he is very angry with him. "Fine boy, shut up! What I'm saying is..." Hahaha so funny when he's supposed to be angry and the nice name still comes out LOL
Let's talk, how important is your name to you?
P.s The amazing things that can happen in 2013, now y'all know my real names :)
Love always
JB

Yes oh your name is very important..My parent changed my name from linda when they discovered it was serpent..Now they gave me the sweetest name ever ;)...
ReplyDeleteSeriously, sometimes you might just need to change it.
DeleteYours is the opposite of most people. Whilst most (read 'me') have numerous native names and not a single English name, you have English names and no native name hmm
ReplyDeleteI know right? And my siblings have native names as well as English names
DeleteYou can imagine
lol@ Fine boy shut up. i love all my names and they all make sense.
ReplyDeleteLol
DeleteBe grateful to your parents :)
umm yea names they say have a way of affecting you somehow but i still regard it as a Myth. why? My name according to Greek mythology means "Thracian God Of Wine".. so i guess we all at this point expect some drunkard.
ReplyDeleteNews flash: don`t even drink alcohol. Guess as individuals,we play a major role in that affect aspect of our being :)

DeleteI think names does play a crucial role in people's lives. It's something that you carry with you. People know you by your name, whatever it is. I thank God my parents gave me the names I'm called today.
ReplyDeleteNo matter what the day is, my mom never goes without saying 'Oluwaseun', which means 'thank you God.'
The meaning behind names is indeed important. It's also spiritual.
You know we are so on the same page.

DeleteI actually thought your first name is Janyl, not Jane. The meaning of my name is like so so cool.
ReplyDeleteStart thanking me for this great revelation :)
DeletePlease tell, what does it mean?
Wow, Idara, em, Jane, lol, it had to take this post for me to discover that you are an Akwa Ibom or Cross River babe. Abadie? Lol. I totally agree with you on the name thing. Names play a vital role in our lives. For instance, my husband's family name is Idionkanta, meaning a tornado or whirlwind. He told me that God led him to change that surname and substitute with King, and he did an official name change, and dropped the tornado surname. His life experienced more progress after he did that. This happened before we got married anyway, but I can assure you, I would have still married him, nevertheless, hehehehehehe. His first name is Ubong, by the way, which means, glory. My own name- Unyimeobong, means, by God's agreement.
ReplyDeleteWe have carefully and prayerfully chosen our children's names as well because the names are a declaration of destiny. My first, Adora, bears a latin name which is derived from the word, Adorable, and means, 'beloved of the Lord,' then comes Jamon, Hebrew for, 'the right hand of favor,' Atara, meaning, 'crown of blessing,' Hebrew as well, and our little princess of faith, Sarah. As we gave those names, we made prophetic declarations into their destinies which will speak as time goes by.
Thanks for this-thought provoking piece.
I'm from Akwa Ibom :)
DeleteYour names are so cool. I love them, ESP your children's names
LOL...I love the Fineboy name. I agree with you and parents that positive names and meanings are very important.
ReplyDeleteIf you know how old my brother is, I'm sure you'll never stop laughing :)
DeleteAbsolutely, they really are
That's great
ReplyDeleteYour parents are different
as parents can be i guess
Please tell us the good things as they happen
Cheers!
I'll try
DeleteThanks for indulging
haha you're so funny! Thanks God my parents gave me some good names. Emmanuella comes from Emmanuel which means " God is with us" and my second name Flore means "Flora" or " Fauna" well as for this one I don't know why lol
ReplyDeleteI think your name stems from floral, Latin name for flower. It should mean something beautiful, something that blossoms and is really special
DeleteI like your names :)
A lot of people don't know, but my middle name is Alphonse.
